Why large containers fail differently
Small containers fail at the rim. Large containers fail at the base centre. A 1200 ml load of rice weighs about 1 kg; combined with five containers stacked on top, the bottom base sees 6 kg of point load. Without a base rib pattern, it sags and the container rocks.
Specify rib depth 1.5–2.5 mm on the base and check a stack of eight for 24 hours before approving.
Catering-specific requirements
- Nesting ratio — catering staff pull containers fast; a 3 mm nesting gap jams, a 5 mm gap wastes cartons
- Lid with corner tabs — gloves and hot hands need a lift point
- Compatible with 1/1 GN trays — if the caterer uses standard trays, external dimensions should divide into 530 × 325 mm
FAQ
Is 1200ml the same as 40oz? 1200 ml = 40.6 US fl oz. Close enough that suppliers use both labels.
PP or CPET for catering? PP for reheating to 100°C; CPET if the caterer oven-heats to 180–220°C.
Next step
Send the tray system the caterer uses. Dimension compatibility matters more than capacity at this size.
