BPA-Free PP: What the Claim Actually Means

BPA is a monomer in polycarbonate and a component in epoxy resins. It is not part of PP polymerisation. So a PP container cannot contain BPA unless it is contaminated by another material — which is essentially impossible in a dedicated line.
Why the label still appears
Because retailers ask for it. Because consumers search for it. Because competitors print it. The label costs nothing and reassures a buyer who has not looked up the chemistry.
Where it becomes a problem: when a supplier charges a premium for "BPA-free PP" or implies the alternative PP is not BPA-free. That is selling a property the material already has.
What buyers should ask instead

FAQ
Is BPA-free the same as safe? No. BPA is one substance among many regulated ones. Migration limits cover plasticisers, antioxidants, monomers and NIAS.
Can PP contain other endocrine disruptors? Compliance with EU 10/2011 and FDA limits is the control mechanism. Ask for migration data, not slogans.
Should I print "BPA-free" on my packaging? Only if your market expects it. In the EU it may invite questions about why you mention a substance that does not apply.
