Step 3 is where deals fail

A container that clears customs but fails the customer's food-safety audit is a total loss — you cannot return it economically. Before the deposit, confirm:

• DoC names the article (not just "PP containers")
• Conditions of use match the real fill temperature and food type
• Test report is from an accredited lab and is recent
• Additives and masterbatch are covered

Incoterms, briefly

CIF looks simpler but hides the freight margin. For a first order, FOB with your own forwarder gives visibility; for small volumes, DDP can be worth the premium.

Pre-shipment inspection: the five checks

1. Count — cartons per SKU against the packing list
2. Weight — gross weight per carton against the spec
3. Drop test — 1.2 m, 10 samples, no crack
4. Lid fit — 20 open-close cycles, no loosening
5. Print check — logo position, colour against the approved proof

A third-party inspector costs USD 300–500 and catches most of what would otherwise become a claim.

How much should I budget for freight? PP containers cube out, so budget by CBM, not weight. A 40HQ from South China to EU/US West Coast typically runs USD 2,000–5,000 depending on season.

Is Alibaba escrow safe? It helps, but it does not verify quality. Inspection does.

What is a typical first order size? One 20GP or a mixed 40HQ, enough to justify tooling and freight.
