Why 30,000 pcs Is a Common MOQ

Why 30,000 pcs Is a Common MOQ

The arithmetic behind it

Cost elementPer run
Machine setup + mould change2–6 hours
Colour change and purging1–3 hours
Material minimum purchase500–1,000 kg
QC and packing setup2–4 hours

At 30,000 pcs of a 20 g container, you consume 600 kg of resin and about 10 hours of machine time. At 5,000 pcs you consume 100 kg and still need the same 10 hours of setup — the setup cost per piece becomes 6× higher.

How to get below MOQ legitimately

  1. Order from stock — factories keep popular sizes in natural colour
  2. Join a combined production run with other buyers using the same mould and colour
  3. Accept a colour the factory already runs — no colour change means lower minimum
  4. Pay a setup surcharge — usually USD 150–400, cheaper than holding dead stock

What does not work: asking for a discount and a lower MOQ at the same time.

FAQ

Is MOQ per SKU or per order? Per SKU per colour. Three colours of one size is three runs.

Can MOQ be lower for a first order? Often yes, at a higher unit price. Ask explicitly.

Next step

Tell us the size, colour and annual volume. If you are below MOQ, we will tell you which stock colour gets you closest without a surcharge.
