School Canteen PP Container Tender Specs

What a tender usually specifies

ItemTypical requirement
Capacityfixed per age group
Materialfood-grade PP, sometimes compostable
Portion controlfill line marked or capacity tolerance ±3%
ComplianceDoC, migration report, sometimes national standard
Colourstandardised, sometimes diet-coded
Deliveryterm-time schedule, no substitutes without approval
Sample50 pcs for trial before award

The two failure modes

1. Substitution. A supplier ships a slightly different size mid-term. In a school, that breaks portion control and the caterer's costing. Tenders usually include a "no substitution without written approval" clause — and buyers check.

2. Documentation lapse. The DoC expires or references a formulation that changed. On audit, the whole contract is at risk.

Portion control detail

If the container is filled by volume, a 3% capacity variation is invisible in production but adds up across 2,000 meals. Specify:

  • nominal capacity with tolerance
  • a fill line moulded into the wall, if the filling method allows
  • sample measurement across 10 pcs before approval

FAQ

Do schools require compostable packaging? Some districts do. If so, verify a certified compostable grade and a real collection route — otherwise the claim is not defensible.

How long are contracts? Typically 1–3 years with annual review.

What volume is typical? 200,000–2,000,000 pcs per year depending on district size.
