Freezer-Grade PP Container: Brittleness and Cold Chain

If a customer freezes the packed food and ships it, homopolymer is the wrong material regardless of price. This is one of the most common quality failures in cold-chain packaging.

The drop test you should demand

Room-temperature drop tests pass for containers that fail in a real freezer. Ask for a 1.2 m drop at −18°C after 24 hours conditioning, 10 samples, no failure. It is a 10-minute test and it prevents an entire container-load of complaints.

FAQ

Can the same container be frozen and microwaved? Yes if it is impact copolymer. Homopolymer handles the microwave but not the freezer.

Does a thicker wall help in the freezer? Only up to a point — material type matters more than thickness.
