IML vs UV Printing on PP Food Containers: Cost, Quality and MOQ Compared
Branded packaging turns a delivery box into advertising. Two technologies are used on PP containers.
In-mould labeling (IML)
A pre-printed PP label is placed in the mould and becomes one with the lid during injection. Photo-quality, full-wrap graphics that never peel or scratch and survive dishwashers. Requires a label tooling set, so MOQ is typically 50,000 pieces per design.
UV flat printing
Artwork is printed directly onto the finished lid with UV-cured food-safe inks. No tooling, so designs can change between batches; suited to 10,000–50,000 piece runs and multi-SKU programs. Slightly less durable than IML.
Curved-surface printing
For round bowls and cups, we print around the body for a full-wrap branded look.
Which to choose
Chains with stable artwork and high volume: IML. Brands testing a market or running seasonal designs: UV. Send us your artwork and we will return a free 3D mock-up.
